Needed a specific size hole
I needed to drill a hole in a mounting plate for a survey tripod so I could tap the plate to use the large screw already on the tripod. This is the size and it handled the aluminum well.

Best Drill Bits I've Ever Used
These Champion Black and Gold bits are fantastic. Super sharp, no meaningly runout, and they stay sharp. I recently had to drill 80 holes in 1/2" steel and after the 80th hole the bit was just as sharp when new. I've now bought 6 individual bits, if I had known the quality I would have purchased a set.

drills holes like a champ. I had a stack of 1/4" steel plates that were welded together I had to drill through. I went slow and used cutting lubricant, but it got through the whole thing in just 10 or 15 minutes.
